Supercenters and Europe

Consumerism is undeniably very important part of American culture.   Sprawling supercenters and warehouse-sized stores are commonplace, even in larger US cities.   European shopping culture is much different in that, instead of going to one store to get all they need, they need to go to a variety of shops to get what is needed.  In America, most everything that a person needs can be found at a supercenter.  This type of shopping can lead things to be more expensive as there is less competition in the specialized shops, though there is usually wider variety of products.  I suspect the American supercenters are very difficult to place inside a historic, zoned city and thus why the difference exists.  In the larger cities in the US, many large stores or supercenters can be found.
There are many other interesting differences that I have encountered in Europe, but this is one of the subjects that may go unnoticed.

PS:  Some waffle establishments in the Red Light district are generous with their whipped cream.  This is an important cultural difference that should be noted.

That was a good obersvation. I honestly didn’t even notice that these European cities don’t have stores like Walmart or super target where they can get everything they need. I agree, this probably does cause more competition in the market, as well as more of a variety of clothing.

And you’re correct, some waffle shops are just more generous than others😉

I think the smaller business segment is overall better for their economy. However, the smaller business segment is great for the urban lifestyle. For someone who lives 20 minutes away from “civilization” I think the one-stop shop is important to how rural America’s economy works. Small business are needed everywhere and are supported more for Europe. I’m just curious how the rural areas here shop in comparison to us. Another curiosity I have is how agriculture intertwines with their stores.

P.S. inappropriate
